The Washington School of Medicine just released a study on treating cell phone elbow. The study concluded that rigid night splinting when combined with activity modification appears to be a successful, well-tolerated, and durable treatment modality in the management of cubital tunnel syndrome.
Cubital Tunnel Syndrome is becoming more common due to cell phones. Cell Phone Elbow (Cubital Tunnel Syndrome) happens when the elbow is bent past 90 degrees for long periods of time. It’s repetitive stress from talking on your cell phone.
The Orthopedic Department at the Washington School of Medicine treated patients with Cubital Tunnel Syndrome with activity modifications and three months of rigid night splinting that kept the elbow bent at 45 degrees. The treatment was deemed a failure if the patient went on to have surgery.
So a possible solution to your elbow pain might be to get a hands-free device, and to wear an elbow brace while sleeping.
