Walking boots are sometimes referred to as Aircasts, ankle boots, fracture boots, or cam walkers. This type of brace is designed to eliminate plaster casts, and make getting around while rehabilitating a bit easier. If you have foot pain or heel pain, what do you think would be easier to wear, a boot like the one pictured above or a hard plaster cast? Walking boots provide protection and stability to assist in rehab while allowing patients to ambulate (walk around).
These boots can be removed for bathing and the liners are washable. Have you ever smelled the inside of a plaster cast when it’s cut off? Not too pleasant is it? Also, a removable treatment option for a broken or sprained ankle allows doctors and therapists to examine the injured area without the interference of a hard, opaque cast.
Walking boots are a lighter, lower profile alternative to plaster casts. They provide protection and stability while assisting in ambulation, hygiene, and patient care.
