ACL Knee Brace

March 12, 2018 @ 4:03 pm posted by Brace and Support Help

ACL Knee braces need to provide protection and stability.  They come in two varieties: custom and off-the-shelf.  A custom ACL Knee brace is for people with unique anatomy or serious athletes.  An off-the-shelf knee brace is pretty much for everyone else.

Some people can get along with an ACL deficient knee.  If you’re not that active or engage in activities that don’t put too much stress on your knees it’s quite possible you can avoid surgery and/or bracing.  However if your knee isn’t always there for you, meaning it gives out from time-to-time, you have to understand that the condition will only get worse.  Ligaments aren’t known for spontaneaously regenerating.

Long term, and ACL deficient knee can cause osteoarthritis.  It most likely will.  An ACL knee brace can help stabilize your knee joint so that it “tracks” correctly.  A knee joint slides, glides, and rotates.  There’s a lot going on in your knee.  If your knee isn’t tracking correctly, even the slightest misalignment can cause unnecessary wear and tear that will eventually lead to arthritis.

An ACL Knee brace can help.

A Great Ligament Knee Brace

February 12, 2018 @ 12:24 pm posted by Brace and Support Help

There are many functional knee braces on the market.  Which is the right brace for you, or your patient?

Knee brace technology has seen a lot of advancements over the past twenty years, and everybody has it just about right.  All the manufacturers of these knee braces provide supports that protect and stabilize a ligament deficient knee.  The knee braces may be constructed from aluminum or carbon graphite, and the joints can mimic knee bio-mechanics or offer internal and external rotation.  They solve similar problems from slightly different angles with pretty much the same results.  The one common aspect most of these braces share is that they’re expensive.  The knee brace pictured above is an exception.  This is a fair and reasonably priced functional knee brace that will provide protection and stability.  The Matrix lite knee brace is light weight, strong, and comfortable.

The Global Knee by Hely & Weber

Overview

  • For Bi-Compartmental OA
  • For Tri-Compartmental OA
  • Range-of-Motion Hinges
  • Provides Stability
  • Assists in Mobility

Description

The Global Knee addresses pain, provides stability, and assists in mobility.  There is often a significant amount of time that passes from when a patient is told they need to have their knee replaced and the actual surgery.  This knee brace helps patients during that time.

The Patella Sling controls the patella with an inferior to superior directional pull.  There are adjustable struts that can be molded with bending irons (not included) to accommodate swollen knees and apply a varus or valgus force.  There’s a removable buttress that can be adjusted for each patient’s needs.

Reinforced hinge pockets provide durability and double as a built-in pull-up assist.  The Global knee is constructed of breathable lycra urethane laminate and spacer fabric.  The range-of-motion hinges are slightly offset to accommodate inflamed bulbous knees.

Indications

  • Arthritis
  • Global Knee Pain
  • Bi-Compartmental OA
